Pick one write down the author and the name of the painting ( must be medieval)
Using this one also state what you think medieval life was like.

Look at a majority of the medieval art come up with a idea of what life was like.
Compare Modern and medieval art

I chose for my art piece The Baptism of Christ done sometime in the 1450s by PIERO della Francesca who lived 1415/1420 – 1492 this art piece shows how medieval people even as the time period was ending still put a lot of belief into religion. Religion and the firm belief in God was a common thing among people in that time period not only as a common link between the poorest of the poor and the highest king but as a way to explain many of the different things that happened in every day life that the average person of the time could not understand. Religion also in many ways acted as a method of control that allowed the people in power to use the power of God to control the masses and keep order.

Religion and the power of the rich, royalty and the gods seamed to be a common theme in medieval art work weather it be that of The Arnolfini Portrait by EYCK, Jan van showing a well off couple or Venus and Mars by BOTTICELLI, Sandro depicting the God of War and the God of Love. However by modern time these themes started to change. In the 1800’s it became more common to see artwork depicting more abstract items such as a plant or a landscape as in The Hay Wain or Sunflowers. In the 1800’s there was no longer major monarchs however when a artist wanted to portray power it was not uncommon to depict battles or an army this can be seen in paintings such as The Fighting Temeraire or even do a degree power can be seen in The Execution of Maximilian showing governmental revolution.
